Agent and Virtual Reality Based Online Course Delivery System

The Computer Science Department at East Carolina University offers a Master of Science in Software Engineering degree that is available both online through ECU's distance education and on-campus in a face-to-face setting. The program prepares students to be able to specify, implement, and manage large software system projects from initial concept to the end of product life that are on-time, on-budget, and meet functional requirements. Our new Master of Science in Software Engineering degree program was launched in spring 2008, the first ever program of its kind in the state of North Carolina.

According to a 2003 report prepared for the University of North Carolina Office of the President, employment growth in software engineering should increase over 70% between 2000 and 2010. Analyzing the need for various engineering professions in North Carolina the report identified software engineering as the fastest growing field in North Carolina. Offering a Master of Science in Software Engineering through distance education and face-to-face learning provides opportunities for working professionals and graduate students to continue their education in a technical area with high employment potential. Courses are offered using a variety of Internet-based tools.
